Hey guys, Thanks for taking the time to help me and read this.

I have an XP pro computer, my current Hard drive is connected through IDE and currently set to slave, this is noticed in my Bios.

I also have a new hard drive which im using for storage, this is a SATA drive.

Now the problem is, when I just have my IDE drive in, windows boots fine, but when I connect the new SATA drive, after the XP loading screen, my computer freezes, on a black screen and does nothing.

I can get into the bios when the new drive is connected and that is also reconised, and the IDE is set to the main drive.

Help please, I would like to use my new 500gb drive.

Thanks alot guys.

PS I am quite technical, so dont be scared to use techy jargon.

Welcome to Tech Forums, ultraspoon!

Is your IDE drive the OS drive? If so, then why is it set to slave?

As for the SATA drive, make sure the SATA ports are enabled in the BIOS. Sometimes they could be disabled for whatever reason.

Could be the hard drive priority within the boot sequence.

Im sorry thats a....really bad typo on my behalf, the IDE drive is my OS drive and it is set to master. And for the settings for SATA in the bios are all correct as far as i know and the IDE drive is set as top in priortiy in the Bios too. Thanks for your reply
