First off, let me see if my idea is right. The HD out of my old pc is dying, so I'm going to try and copy it onto a different hd and put in a newer pc. The HD has xp on it, won't xp just detect the hardware changes and work fine after the enw drivers are installed even though it's a new PC?

Second, what's the easiest way? I am putting it in my external USB enclosure and going to use a norton ghost. Can I do that in the windows on the new machine or will ghost let me make a bootable cd to do the cloning?

Sorry if the questions are a little dumb, but I've never done this before.

Thanks,

Ryan

A step-by-step guide (sort of):
  • Clone the drive with Ghost.
  • Switch the new drive out for the old one. Use Sysprep to "seal" your drive, shutting the computer down one it has finished.
  • Move the new drive to the new computer, fire it up.
  • Go through the setup from Sysprep and away you go.
