Eee PC question.

What type of ram does the Eee Pc have? Is it easily upgradable? I no they come with 1gb but is that 2x512mb or 1x1gb? Is it DDR or DDR2? I am going to buy one next week I think for college and travel but might want to add a stick of ram. This is the one I am going to get:

Best Buy has it for $300 right now.

DDR2, 1GB is the default; they can only have one stick and the max is 2GB. And yes, it's easily upgradeable (I think).

I'm thinking of getting a EeePC too, though I'm after the SSD version.

Best buy can put a 2gb stick in it for me so warranty doesn't void. But they will probably rip me for it so I think I am going to buy it and just not break it and hope it doesn't break.

This is the ram I would like to get. Seems like good timing and nice with the heat spreader. Is it decent ram especially for the price?

The ram's fine.

I remember there was some controversey when these first came out about the warranty sticker being over the memory slot and Asus ended up back tracking and saying later that although the sticker was there, upgrading the memory won't void the warranty. And if they wanted to make that claim, they'd have to be prepared to prove that you doing a simple upgrade like that would somehow break the computer.

My advice to anyone facing the situation is just to do the upgrade yourself, it's extremely easy and there's no reason to let Geeksquad scare you into paying $50 for 5 seconds of work.

Try looking at sdram prices the next time you're there. I think it was at my local BBY I noticed a 256mb stick going for like $129.

WOW!!! I haven't ordered ram yet since I am broke from buying the machine but def going to get it at newegg. Best Buy is good for somethings rip offs for others..
