DDR2, 1GB is the default; they can only have one stick and the max is 2GB. And yes, it's easily upgradeable (I think).

I'm thinking of getting a EeePC too, though I'm after the SSD version.

I remember there was some controversey when these first came out about the warranty sticker being over the memory slot and Asus ended up back tracking and saying later that although the sticker was there, upgrading the memory won't void the warranty. And if they wanted to make that claim, they'd have to be prepared to prove that you doing a simple upgrade like that would somehow break the computer.

My advice to anyone facing the situation is just to do the upgrade yourself, it's extremely easy and there's no reason to let Geeksquad scare you into paying $50 for 5 seconds of work.
 
WOW!!! I haven't ordered ram yet since I am broke from buying the machine but def going to get it at newegg. Best Buy is good for somethings rip offs for others..
