well, you cant use ddr3 ram on a ddr2 only mobo. and i would get an ati card instead because you could crossfire two cards later on, that mobo only supports crossfire, no sli. id get a 4870, it has around the same performance as a gtx 260.

I won her a PSU already, its some 680W BFG PSU. Should do for the time being.
I'm still undecided, should she get ddr2 ram or ddr3? I know there is hardly any benefit at all besides a very marginal improvement.
so what should I do? Get DDR2 and save 100$ or get DDR3 and spend more?

there is only a small difference. if you really think you need to "future proof" this rig then get ddr3 (youll have to switch the mobo), otherwise ddr2 will work fine, and will save you money.
