laptop speakers

i have a vostro 1000 laptop and the sound does work but not on dvds or the net could any one help me

I am a little confused.

You are saying you speakers work for internet and playing DVD's but for nothing else.

Is that correct? If not please explain a little bit more clearly.

am sorry no their is no sound when am watching a dvd

am not sure what has gone wrong it used to work but for some reason it dosent work i did have a power dvd but used to work fine till this has happened so ended up deleting it i have tried to down load it but nt sure where to get it from, when i use windows media player it says now that i need a dvd decorder so am not sure what to do i hope i haven't deleted the wrong thing.

Did it say you needed a codec?

then get klite.

this is what it says. Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

My choice would be for the DivX Player. You can download it for free at divx.com
It's a great player. I wouldn't worry too much about Windows Media Player.
