considering an 8800gts for physx

I'm considering getting a 8800gts for physx... are there any real advantages in games/benchmarks to having a dedicated phsyx card? i can get the card for around $50 from a friend and was wondering if it would be worth it... also not a bad idea to have a backup card too.. what do you guys think?

If he still has it, VeeDub's post in buy/sell/trade had an 8800GT for $50 shipped.

Yha, it'll help abunchn but I'd get somedthing else, like VeeDubs 8800gt. It'll produce less heat, and be just as good.

unless this is one of the G92 8800GTS's then no i would not get a old 8800GTS for a backup/physx.

Is there any advantage in using the cards made specifically for physx over a regular card dedicated for physx? Sorry for kinda hijacking the thread.

^ you mean the ageia physx cards? no those are slower than say, something like a 8800GT. heck even the 9600GT's are faster than those.

The last I heard Nvidia was disabling PhysX support for PC's not running an Nvidia card as the Primary Adapter. I know I read it, I just can't remember where.

looks like its an update only included with the newest drivers? couldn't i just use the old ones
