I used intel burn test on i7 920 D0, evga x58 classified, 6GB corsair dominator, corsair 1000W, and thermaltake 120 extreme Rev B.

here's the data.

I don't think that's normal... for a standard test. Iunno, someone confirm/tell me what to do to make it better...

Ambient temps is the temperature of the area your computer is in, most likely the temperature of the room your computer is in. Can find that out with thermometers.

lol I don't think I have a thermo handy atm - but should be 29/30 C

I physically touched the heatpipes of the thermalright and followed them as close as I can get to the CPU (computer is on) - the pipes are below body temp...

so I am assuming I installed it incorrectly...

Yeah a 15C delta from ambient to idle temps is a bit much for a true at stock speeds. I would remount.

I would hope for around an 8C delta. So assuming 30C ambient I would want to see 38-40C idle with a load temp around 55C to 58C.

how do I remount - as in how to reapply thermal paste?

should I get propanol and cutip the old out and then redo it?

rubbing alcohol and a coffee filter works good. Just make sure you so not use too much paste when reapplying. a very thin layer on the cpu is plenty. About a rice grain size ob paste.

What paste are you using? TX-2 is really good if you need some new paste.
