both computers are running WIN2K ADV SERVER

I am testing things out in a lab environment before they will be used real time

it is very possible that the advanced server config prohibits users from modifying the power settings. You should disble them from even logging on, that way only admins have access to the system. I would sugest trying this on a non server OS.

ah, sorry thought you were trying to make chagnes to the PDC. So then running active directory? May want to check the inherited permissions on the user accounts. Also, is this mixed mode or native mode? If mixed does this happen on both 2k and NT station or just one or the other.

this is a native mode setup, yes I am using active directory as well as trying to implement exchange 2000, if I could ever get that far!
