I believe if Intel might suit your needs more for the applications you listed, but beyond that the links lazerman gave you are pretty good. You can spend $1000+ on the motherboard and CPU alone if you want to. Who IS going to put this all together for you anyway? And why haven't you asked them for their input as far as what to purchase? MSI Neo2-Platinum 1000FSB Motherboard. MSI is a good solid stable brand, since you don't want to know anything about your computer there is no point in giving you a board with a lot of options in the BIOS seeing that you probably won't ever enter that area anyway although you might have to go into it with the new processor to set your default speeds.

There's a good case made by the same maker as the PSU I suggested. That case comes with a 420w PSU and it's from thermaltake so you can rest assure that that power supply in there will be good. There's $125 there so we're down to $575 roughly.
I don't know if you need any cd-roms or burners, dvd-roms or burners or what so I'm not gonna suggest those as they really don't have anything to do with the 'performance' of your system and I'm just giving you the MAIN parts needed to get a running computer.

Now that leaves you with $160 roughly eh? Well with that remaining $160 you can look into cd-roms, dvd-roms, cd-burners, and dvd-burners if you want/need those. Or only get a 1gb Kit of XMS memory instead of a 2gb kit.

1gb kit of XMS for $355 so that takes off $160 compared to the $510 for the 2gb kit so if you got the 1gb kit instead you'd have $320 to spend on whatever. Honestly you shouldn't need more than a gig of RAM right now anyway so a gig of dual channel running XMS RAM will fly. That basically covers everything.
With what I told you, you should have roughly $160 if you get the 2gb and $320 if you get the 1gb of RAM. You could also save by getting a normal IDE Hard drive, but those are only 7,200 RPM and not 10,000 which results in quicker loading times, file accessing, etc....
So now with that $320 go to
www.zipzoomfly.com and decide whether you want to get another hard drive, a cd-burner, upgrade the graphics card to the ULTRA (which isn't REALLY needed because the GT can be OC'd to Ultra speeds, plus the 420w Power supply might not be able to handle it. They recommend having 480w with the Ultra)
You need to look into the case and power supply yourself for a more 'personalized feel' You might need to go 500w instead of 420w if you add more devices to your computer. That should cover everything you need to make a screaming machine that will assist in making life easier.
