Thanks Lazerman. Fortunately, we have people like you who are here to help the less computer savvy.

Lazer, have you used these products? Or are you going by specs? or reviews? or both? Thanks.

Hi. your work seems to require high end graphics programs and they usually need a great deal of memory. The programs themselves may perform better with certain graphics boards so I would inquire with like people who do your type of work to define what you need and then people here can search out the best hardware for you. Just my thoughts, I believe your serious but you need to establish a baseline. I hope this helps in some way.

but you havn't acted this way to the other 50 people asking the same question.
Nah, I never do the shopping for people. Most I've ever done is linked a motherboard or some sites to start at.

Well that confirms it. You are crazy.
Whatever you say chief.

Now if you don't want to really help me, I would rather you stop crapping my thread. Thanks.

Not trying to crap on your thread, but you coulda approached it better. Honestly you're coming off as 'Heres money, just build the machine and make it quick' and I suppose I'm coming off as 'insane' ooooh guess I'll have to deal.

Not only do I have time for that,
Freudian slip I guess....you just said you do have time for it..hmm. anywho...

I believe if Intel might suit your needs more for the applications you listed, but beyond that the links lazerman gave you are pretty good. You can spend $1000+ on the motherboard and CPU alone if you want to. Who IS going to put this all together for you anyway? And why haven't you asked them for their input as far as what to purchase? So here, if you want some help here it is, I just hope you appreciate the simple fact you can throw down that amount of money for a computer because a lot would only dream of this kind of machine:

MSI Neo2-Platinum 1000FSB Motherboard. MSI is a good solid stable brand, since you don't want to know anything about your computer there is no point in giving you a board with a lot of options in the BIOS seeing that you probably won't ever enter that area anyway although you might have to go into it with the new processor to set your default speeds.

(SIDE NOTE ABOUT MOBO):
You might consider this motherboard instead:

Same brand, but the NB fan isn't in the way of the AGP slot...depending on the graphics card you get, this may or may not be a problem. If you get the new 6800 cards then it will more than likely be a problem and might get in the way.

FX-53 Socket 939 processor. $840 just for that bad boy alone. That's top of the line and will make for a 'screaming easier life machine' I'm not lying when I say TOP OF THE LINE too, that is absolute top for AMD64's right now. FX-55 will be coming fairly soon, but god knows how long 'fairly soon' is.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-48

a 2gb kit of Corsair XMS High Performance Memory. A kit means it's two sticks of 1gb so you'll be able to run them in Dual Channel for better performance. Thats about $1600 thus far.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101222

74GB 10,000RPM SATA hard drive. (Hope whoever is setting this up knows how to install a SATA drive and set up a RAID array)
That's only 1 hard drive, I don't know if you need another or what. So I'm just gonna assume 1 for now. That's about $1800 after taxes. So about $700 left eh.

Some cases come with Power supplies in them, but generally if you do that you're getting a crappy power supply.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=370465

That's a good name brand power supply, but is also $100.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=370442

There's a good case made by the same maker as the PSU I suggested. That case comes with a 420w PSU and it's from thermaltake so you can rest assure that that power supply in there will be good. There's $125 there so we're down to $575 roughly.

I don't know if you need any cd-roms or burners, dvd-roms or burners or what so I'm not gonna suggest those as they really don't have anything to do with the 'performance' of your system and I'm just giving you the MAIN parts needed to get a running computer.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=322693

eVGA 6800GT 256mb Video Card - $415

Now that leaves you with $160 roughly eh? Well with that remaining $160 you can look into cd-roms, dvd-roms, cd-burners, and dvd-burners if you want/need those. Or only get a 1gb Kit of XMS memory instead of a 2gb kit.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-19

1gb kit of XMS for $355 so that takes off $160 compared to the $510 for the 2gb kit so if you got the 1gb kit instead you'd have $320 to spend on whatever. Honestly you shouldn't need more than a gig of RAM right now anyway so a gig of dual channel running XMS RAM will fly. That basically covers everything.

With what I told you, you should have roughly $160 if you get the 2gb and $320 if you get the 1gb of RAM. You could also save by getting a normal IDE Hard drive, but those are only 7,200 RPM and not 10,000 which results in quicker loading times, file accessing, etc....

So now with that $320 go to www.zipzoomfly.com and decide whether you want to get another hard drive, a cd-burner, upgrade the graphics card to the ULTRA (which isn't REALLY needed because the GT can be OC'd to Ultra speeds, plus the 420w Power supply might not be able to handle it. They recommend having 480w with the Ultra)

You need to look into the case and power supply yourself for a more 'personalized feel' You might need to go 500w instead of 420w if you add more devices to your computer. That should cover everything you need to make a screaming machine that will assist in making life easier.

EDIT:
Fortunately, we have people like you who are here to help the less computer savvy.

lol yeah I help the less computer savvy, hence why I have 1000+ posts here. I just help those less computer savvy people who want to try and become less 'less computer savvy' lest you say that I am less than eager to help the lesser less computer savviests  hahahahahaha

Okay, Here is the best cpu for you- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-465&depa=1

Here is the best mobo- http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-127-181&depa=1

Get this heatsink- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-108-037&depa=0

And this fan- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-999-603&depa=0

If you are wanting all out performance in air cooling and you dont care about sound, get this fan instead- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-999-613&depa=0

Best of the best.... that freakin 'heatsink' cost almost as much as my mainboard.

lol that heatsink DOES cost as much as my mainboard...well it's current price, was $85 when I bought it, but yeah I forgot about the heatsinks. What lazerman suggested are good heatsinks...obviously since you're paying $60 JUST for the heatsink itself.

Nubius. Thank you very much for your detailed direction. Your not as crazy as I thought you were :p

Now who do i get to assemble this monster?

what do you say nubius? you want to take the task? :)

Have you looked at the heatsink prices for AMD 64 bit cpu's? They are all that price. Anyways, no I haven't used this stuff. The stuff I mentioned because 1, Abit makes the BEST mobo, and 2, there isn't any need for the FX-53 64 bit cpu. Also this is a well built case, and it cools very well (made out of all aluminum)- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-112-053&depa=1

If you don't need a full tower, here is it's little brother- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-112-055&depa=1
