What kind of HDD for and IDE connection?

Sorry for warming up this old thread, but I still have a question (I want to order a new HDD for my old PC this week).

What is the por/con of getting an IDE controller card and a SATA drive versus getting a HDD with an IDE connection? Is it just a difference in price and it's basically the same for the rest?

Thanks !

I think I might just do as you suggested and get the WD IDE hard-drive! :)

EDIT: What kind of IDE drive would you suggest if I only need a smaller HDD. Maybe 250GB or something like that....

You might want to see if there any with larges caches (i.e. 16MB), otherwise good choice.

Thanks !

I could not find drives of that size with a 16MB cache.

The old HDD (the one that crashed) had only 60GB, so I will not need a drive much bigger than that. Maybe even this one's enough:
Databyte - WD 160GB 8MB 7200rpm PATA Caviar 3.5inch DT , WD1600JB

But then again, the bigger ones are not that much more money.
I was thinking of the WD 500GB drive, but I read a few negative reviews (also some good ones, btw) saying the drive is not very reliable ....
