Ello.

So I wanted to buy a new PC but alot of friends said that it's cheaper if I build my own. So I started reading some guides here about upgrading, and started looking for parts. Actually my screen is also old and I want to buy a new one.

The screen, I found a 24" wide with 2ms response time and 50000:1 contrast for 318 USD.
Also, for a long time I've wanted the GTX260. I found one (216 pipes) for 233 USD.
I'm struggling with the rest :/ I know nothing about motherboards, and just a little about CPUs. My budget is around 6000SEK (800 USD), but probably more if I can... in english umm... pay it in pieces (like 100bucks a month).

I have some questions:
1. The graphic card that I mentioned above requires 600Watts. However, I found one that required 550watts and one that required 500. Are there any differences between them?
2. Does CPU really matter in gaming? All I hear is graphic card, graphic card and graphic card.
3. As I said in numer one, there is a 500w 260 GTX. Should I get that one to buy a cheaper power supply instead?

My purposes: Gaming mostly. Probably CoD Modern Warfare 2 - I'd love to play it at high settings and the resolution of my new screen. I don't really care about the looks, so the case can be ugly as ****. I don't care about the sound either, just some integrated **** will do it.

So, which Motherboard and CPU do you guys prefer? I live in Sweden so Newegg can't ship items to me really. But there are other good sites: Net2World, NetOnNet, Inet, Butik.

Thanks.

Edit: I just saw a review about the GTX 260 216 on YouTube, and it seems like the EVGA GTX 260 superclocked is better. Is it worth $50 more than the 216?

I don't have time to post up a whole build, but I can tell you this.

1. I thought they were all 500W. Maybe the others are overclocked versions.
2. The Cpu does matter, but most games are going to ride the graphics card much more heavily. A decent core 2 duo is good enough, but if your budget is $800 not including the monitor, you can go for a quad. Phenom II x4 940 preferably.
3. Yeah, get the 500W one because I am assuming those others are overclocked. It is always a waste to buy factory overclocked unless it is like only $5 or $10 more. Then it doesn't really matter. So, to answer your other question, don't get the superclocked card for $50 more.

I'll tell you what, I can give you a build that I put together for a clanmate off of newegg. You'll just have to re-find the parts on your site. There may also be better deals than the cpu-mobo combo I found.

cpu + mobo: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! $260
Ram: Newegg.com - OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR800C44GK - Desktop Memory $55 - $20 MIR = $45
GPU: Newegg.com - XFX HD-489A-ZDFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards $195
HDD: Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3750528AS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives $80
PSU: Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7 - Power Supplies $110
Case: Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER ELITE 335 RC-335-KKN1-GP Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases $40
Optical: Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD Burner - CD / DVD Burners $26

If you must have Nvidia, something like this will substitute for the 4890 in this budget: Newegg.com - XFX GX275XAHFF GeForce GTX 275 896MB 448-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

You don't have to have the exact same optical, case, psu, or hdd. Those are just guidelines.

Thanks for your reply.

The thing is they are more expensive here :/
The Phenom2 X4 940 costs $251.
A case with integrated 500W PSU (cheap one) for $72.
Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H for $116.
GTX 260+ for $234.
OCZ 4GB Gold XTC for $79.
DVD±RW for $32.
500GB HDD for $26.
That's $810.

But you recommended a 750W PSU right? Do I need it for overclocking or is it just better with higher? And the GTX 260+ Superclocked beats the GTX280 as I saw on YouTube.

Edit: Actually I know nothing about ATI cards. There is a XFX HD4890 1GB GDDR5 (850Mhz) 256bit - for about the same price as the 260+. Should I buy the HD4890, GTX 260+ or GTX 275? I want high framerates at 1920x1050.

Don't use the Power Supply that comes with that case, get a different case without a PSU and buy a 750W Power Supply separately.
Buying a 750W PSU now means you won't need to buy a new PSU down the track if you want to SLI.
It is difficult to pick out parts for you due to the differences in currency, but I would make sure whatever graphics card you get, get one with 1Gb Ram because you are playing at a fairly high res.

I kept looking and found a new site, much cheaper.

Here are the parts I'm planning to get (PLEASE, if any of the components don't fit eachother or you prefer another one, please tell me):

AMD Phenom II X4 940 - 3 GHz, cache L3 6 Mb, socket AM2+ - Black Edition
Advance 8808KP KAPPA
ADVANCE PC PSU EA4G-750 750W
320GB Samsung SpinPoint T HD322HJ
OCZ Gold Edition Dual Channel 2 x 2 Gb DDR2-1066 PC2-8500 CL5
SAMSUNG Intern brännare DVD±RW 16x SH-S223B
^ For $500.

Now. I have a motherboard and a graphic card left.

So far, I've found this motherboard.
I see you prefer a 1GB card because I'm playing on 1920x1080 right? 896MB can't do it? If no, then I'm stuck on the HD4890?

Edit: I changed my mind. I'm getting a 16:10, probably 1920x1200. 1GB should be enough right?

Edit2: I really can't make up my mind. The 16:9s are cheaper.

Guys I think I've come to my final decision. The motherboard and PSU I'm getting both support Crossfire. And you guys say I need at least a 1GB graphic card. So I'm getting the HD4890. And whenever I need an upgrade in the future, I'll just buy another 4890 and crossfire it. Also for the screen, I'm getting a 24" 2ms 1920x1200.
This is my first build, so I'm stil not sure if I've got everything I need. Do I need extra fans? I heard that the HD4890 has high temperatures all the time, especially when playing. Is it safe anyway?

Here are my parts again:
Case: Advance 8808KP KAPPA
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 - 3 GHz, cache L3 6 Mb, socket AM2+ - Black Edition
GPU: SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY Radeon HD4890 OC (Factory overclocked for the same price) - 1 Gb DDR5
PSU: ADVANCE PC PSU EA4G-750 750W
HDD: 320GB Samsung SpinPoint T HD322HJ
RAM: OCZ Gold Edition Dual Channel 2 x 2 Gb DDR2-1066 PC2-8500 CL5
Optical Drive: SAMSUNG Intern brännare DVD±RW 16x SH-S223B

If anything comes in my way of Crossfiring, please tell me. Or if any part doesn't fit into the motherboard.

I'm curious... Is 1GB enough for 1920x1200?

Edit: The motherboard already has three fans.

Please guys, I need a confirmation.

inet is my personal favorite site and their stores are great as well.

I game at 1920 x 1200 with a gtx260 and can max most games.

the 4890 would be plenty for you.
