Value Cpu/MB for a media center?

yeah, and you know what wouldn't allow for more profits? A high failure rate.

You would think that to be true, but many companies seem not to care.

ECS is a budget brand, and they can be a bit iffy. I've heard bad things about their quality control (such as RAM/PCI slots not soldered on properly, etc.).

Anyway, since the OP is looking for a budget board then they could try ECS, or Abit, or ASrock (which is ASUS' budget line, they're pretty good).

Personally though I would steer clear from a board manufacturer (ECS) that is this bad:
A friend of mine fried his during normal operation though. The 20 pin atx connector caught fire, the CPU fried and the RAM, well, it didn't look pretty.
 
Fry's also has the Athlon 4850e and a gigabyte motherboard on sale for $99. Hmmm.
