Someone actually threw this laptop away because it hung up loading XP Pro. I took it home, added a gig of memory and attempted the XP SP2 install. Low and behold, it hangs up with a cyclic redundancy error so I switched to a new install CD and the same thing. I have a copy of Vista Home Premium and it installed flawlessly. Here is the prob. HP has not created Vista drivers for the on-board audio. I would like to install XP (for the audio drivers) but the installation hangs up as described above. Any ideas?

Have you ran a disk check on the drive from another computer? Sounds like a bad sector on the hard drive (or at least that is what the cyclic redundancy usually means). Why Vista works and XP doesn't i don't know... Possbily because Vista loads the files needed into RAM and XP copies them to the HD before installation...
