I'm in a situation where I might need 8G memory sticks. Besides being godawful expensive, I wonder if they are reliable or not, and whether they might run very hot.

Anyone played around with these>

Thanks

Mark

I don't know if they are reliable or what, but I guarantee you most boards won't support them, and they'd be a huge waste of money either way.

I would say these would be suited for workstation computer that need high amounts of ram, they should run fine at the rated timings/speed but i wouldn't bet on overclocking them.

Not even workstations, most have enough slots for multiple sticks of something less extravagant.

Yes the price is horrible

One stick, $900. I could build pretty good system with that money.

On the other hand, if you absolutely have to MAX out the memory on a workstation board, what other choice do I have?

Tyan tech says they've tested them and they are stable. Of course they don't mind if I spends tons of cash...

How much more cost efficient is 4G stick?

Mind me asking, what do you need 8GB sticks for?

What are you running?
I'm almost positive your over thinking something.
