You shouldn't unless you OC it to an extreme..

But I'd just make sure your airflow and Wire Management is solid and you should be fine with an HD 4870X2

He'll be paying extra for the 4870x2, not the gtx 285.
4870 is $589
285 is $459
So $130 extra for the 4870x2? I wouldn't do it.

I believe he's not planning to overclock anything, but meh good point all the same. I just think that, with the gpu being one of the most important (if not THE most important) part of the system, you shouldn't skimp on it. He's obviously got enough cash to afford the 285, and that overclocked and SLI'd in the future will be a **** of a thing to beat.

Yeah I'm not planning to overclock. Thanks for the help guys.

One more thing.. what is better with an i7: SLI or crossfire? or it doesn't matter..?

Doesn't really matter, only the performance in each mode, and I really don't know whether a GTX 285 SLI or HD 4980 CFX is better

Graphics card overclocking isn't like cpu overlcocking. You just move sliders in catalyst control center. There is absolutely no reason not to oc your video card.
