Old but re-jigged computer wont POST

I have since stripped the comp down to the minimum needed to see any issues, basically I just removed the CD-Rom and it's cables. It booted fine and I rebooted and everything was fine again. So the problem must be CD-Rom related. However in the recent past I have tried another CD-Rom and other cables and got nowhere

Could be the ide port on the mobo.

Sorry I misread your post, I thought it said IDLE PORT not IDE PORT.
I have now changed the ribbons around. I originally had the hard drive connected to the motherboard IDE and the CD-Rom connected to the IDE card in the PCI slot. The logical option in my opinion.
Upon putting the hard drive on the card and the CD-Rom on the mobo all is well, how annoying is that ?
