computer wont boot up to a OS, doesnt seem to want too boot up from HDD, and cant read discs in disc drive. any troubleshooting ideas?????

Any specific errors you're getting? Have you checked your settings in the BIOS to make sure it's supposed to boot to the OS HDD? If it is and you're still not booting then you may need a new hard drive or maybe just need to reinstall the OS. To reinstall you will want to set it to boot to your optical drive first then it will boot from the OS installation media.

well the MOBO was the asus rampage 1 and on the LCD poster it came up with CPU INIT.

but we couldnt really put it down to it being the quad core we put in or if the case was twisting the board loosening something which created the error, it did end up booting up in a different case so we put it down to the case was twisting the MOBO which created the error.

any of use ever heard of that happening before??

well sheepy it came up on the LCD poster "CPU INIT" in one of the cases but we tried starting it up put of the case and it fired up but it didnt boot up in one of the cases we had it in. we then chucked it in the case its in now and it booted up alrite

thats what we thought as well Hef but werent sure to why it would twist because it had never happened before with any other board.

CPU INIT means that the board doesnt recoginise the processor you've put in there.

maybe a new processor on an old board or the other way around.
so by "cases" you mean just the hard drive from the INIT pc to another with a working processor?

- alternatively you could have gotten a faulty motherboard or shorted some parts of yours out so that post onboot doesnt know you have a processor
