I want to know if the following parts would make a decent gaming computer. It totaled around $795 but I'm not completely sure if these are good parts for the price.

Processor - Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor - Processors - Desktops

Motherboard - Newegg.com - ASRock A780GMH/128M AM2+/AM3 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

Memory - Newegg.com - OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2N800SR4GK - Desktop Memory

Graphics Card - Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-N945-LR GeForce 9400 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Hard drive (I might get 2 of these) - Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

Please let me know if there is something better I could switch out to without having the price of the machine go over $1000.

hello there,

for $1k, you can get an i7 gaming build such as:

CPU/MOBO: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

GPU/RAM: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

HDD: Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

CD/DVD: Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD Burner - CD / DVD Burners

PSU: Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

CASE: Newegg.com - RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEB 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case - Computer Cases

the total would come out to $1002 + $20 for shipping. but you will get $55 back if you send the rebates in which would make total around $967

now, i think that the parts you listed could make a good rig too, but you can do much better for gaming than a 9400 gt. a gaming rig needs a good gpu and that just isnt it. this setup has a much better card.

also, if you still want to get 2 hdd's something can be worked out to change a few things around, and you can use the windows 7 rc for an OS

if this is pushing the line for your budget, plz lemme know

Hmm that does sound like a nice deal. Oh btw, is there a inexpensive monitor I could probably get, maybe 17-19 in?

That monitor was $139 yesterday. I'd wait until it went back down to that, save yourself a little bit. :)

I think it was like that all week, until today of course.. I actually planned on buying that very one for $139, but it got late in the week so I figured I'd wait until Monday.

Still, I'd expect it to drop back down.

Thats first build was horrible for 800 xD, if you want to keep it under 1000 with monitor you migth have to go with a phenom build, which is still very good.
