I know that it worked for a week or so, but go ahead and try rolling back the sp2 and see what happens. Never hurt to try, also can you log into her account from a different computer to see if this is client side or server side. Oh yeah, which firewall? If zone alarm or something, also disable any built in firewalls.

she can't.... all of her contacts use msn...
Then use a mutli-IM program, like Trillian. She can still contact folks through MSN, but doesn't have to run MSN herself.
oh well its not my problem, i have tried to help!
Getting the standard feedback from MSN is not help. It's just covering bases. If you want to get this sorted out, you should put a little more effort into it. Like posting to one of the MSN newsgroups, forums, or contacting MSN again.
try rolling back the sp2
You can't roll-back SP2. It's embedded.

Make sure the MSN messenger app is included under the list of allowed programs in the windows/zone-alarm firewall. Also, open the documentation and find out what ports MSN uses, and make sure they're open.

i am not that savvy when it comes to opening ports... what do you have to do for that?
