HP Recalls 15,000 More Laptop Batteries

In addition to the 70,000+ batteries the company recalled earlier this month, HP has recalled another 15,000 laptop batteries. The current batch of spontaneously combusting batteries were sold primarily in China. HP was not immediately available for comment.

HP China will replace the batteries -- used in HP Pavilion, Compaq Presario and HP Compaq models -- for free because in extreme conditions they can overheat and pose a fire hazard, the government said on its website (¹ú¼ÒÖÊÁ¿¼à¶½¼ìÑé¼ìÒß×ܾÖÃÅ»§ÍøÕ¾).

That's not good. Good thing I don't live in China and have a laptop. How don't they catch these things before they are shipped? Don't they test a computer in every batch to make sure it isn't defective?

They test the computer, but they buy the batteries from the factory, sometimes they get a **** bunch of fakes, ones that don't have that charge controller built in to keep them from overcharging/getting to hot during charging and so on, thus causing the explosions. This is why SEVERAL cell phone companies put out a warning and gave away info only official batteries would have on them... Such as a hologram on Nokia batteries that had a serial number that would match the serial number on the other side of the battery and had Nokia in the hologram and so on.

Wow, I didn't think that kind of stuff could happen on such a big scale like that. Pretty crazy what happens sometimes.
