what is overclocking?

overclocking is where you push the hardware past what it is designed for, usually this requires upping the voltage being run through it and needs much better cooling than what stock provides. for example my i7 920 runs at 2.66ghz stock, and idles at 30c. When i overclock it it runs at 4.0ghz instead of 2.66 but it's temps get higher..mine idles at 38c, as well i'm on water cooling.....

Overclock is like putting NOZ on your car. Sure, it will give better performance, but at the same time you will wear out your componants soon too. Especially if you don't know what you are doing.
