what is overclocking?

Hey i just want to know what is over clocking? and is it worth it?

my cpu is a amd phenomII x4 3.0 Ghz


can i over clock? and is it worth it?

overclocking is where you push the hardware past what it is designed for, usually this requires upping the voltage being run through it and needs much better cooling than what stock provides. for example my i7 920 runs at 2.66ghz stock, and idles at 30c. When i overclock it it runs at 4.0ghz instead of 2.66 but it's temps get higher..mine idles at 38c, as well i'm on water cooling.....

here is a guide to introduce you to overclocking and what it is. and yes, you should have no problem overclocking that cpu at least a bit, but it will require additional cooling

Overclock is like putting NOZ on your car. Sure, it will give better performance, but at the same time you will wear out your componants soon too. Especially if you don't know what you are doing.
