Building a Gaming Computer

Hey, this is my first time building a computer, and I was kind of wondering if this was a decent build. I was here about 3 months ago, to get prepared, but I am actually getting parts now, so If anyone has some suggestions, that would be great. This computer is for gaming ONLY. No videos, no editing pictures, or anything like that. I will use the internet a bit, but I'm keeping the computer I am on as well, so I will not use my new computer for anything but gaming 90% of the time. So, here is what I have got so far, but as I said suggestions are very welcome.

NO NO NO on that mobo!!!!!!!!!!!

You need an x58.

You could pick a different one, but make sure it is a good brand such as eVGA, gigabite, Asus, or Biostar.

Okay, well, that motherboard is 100$ more expensive though, so what is so special about it ? Not that i disagree, i actually have no frickin clue. I'm just curious as to why my choice was apparently absurd enough to warrant a WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA lol.

Well, Core i7 is the most expensive platform available currently..

The boards on the other hand, are that expensive because x58's are the only boards to support SLI and CrossfireX (without tweaks) and x58's are the only ones you can put a Core i7 into making it kind of a forced chipset

If it is a gaming system, why get a 260 GTX? Yes it is a nice video card, but then again, I don't know your budget so I can't assume you have more money lying around.

Get the x58 Mobo and if you have another $100 lying around, look into getting the 280GTX. I picked up my OCX 280 GTX from BFG for $265 Shipped.

1680x1050 isn't that high of a resolution that he'd need a GTX 280

The reason you got a WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from druid is because that mobo is not compatible with the core i7s. You do need an x58. I don't know what your budget is but a GTX 260 seems underpowered for gaming build. I would look into either a GTX 280, as slam'n Systems said or a HD 4850 X2.

Also the PSU should work fine for the build that you've got posted but if you change the video card you might want to get something a little more powerful.

Are all of you guys really considering a GTX 260 Core 216 to be "underpowered" ?

HD 4870X2- way too overkill for 1680x1050
GTX 280- same opinion as HD 4870X2 but a bit slower
HD 4870/ GTX 260 c216- A little overkill in some games, but it'd be perfect if you want to max GTA IV or Crysis @ 1680

I wouldn't get anything less than a GTX 260 or HD 4870 for 1680x1050 if you plan on playing modern games.
