I have an i7 and the only thing missing really is a kickin GPU to make this system work like it should ($60 away from getting that...)

all I can really say is.. go with the i7, yeah it's a bit more but you won't regret it. It works extremely well on Windows 7 (i7 and 7 go figure eh?)

Win7 64bit, 6GB DDR3 1600 RAM, 1TB SATA HDD- this system would be close to "perfect" for "Hard Gaming" if I had my Radeon 4890 1GB GPU.

the i7 would be a big increase in performance over the e8500. also the e8500 are getting old, why buy that now when for $90 more you can get the best cpu out right now.

Because it's not just $90 more - you also have to pay around twice as much for a motherboard compared to a 775, and not quite twice as much for DDR3 RAM compared to DDR2.

Still, you're right that it's probably worth the initial investment.

Im going to vote against everyone here and say it's not worth it, I'm not exactly sure what you meant by your current ownership status of the build but the e8500 system wit the 4870 should max most games for now, If you go to a cheap i7, overclocks will be limited, slow ram etc. If your goign to go i7, you go hard and buy good solid products, spend about $1100 for a total build or you will get shabby parts. Wait till the i5's come out.

Here is the new new build list if I choose to go this route.

CPU:

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

VID CARD: SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

RAM: OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV6GK - Retail

Coming at about $915.

I already own a Case, Optical Drive, and 750tx PSU

The edited list is above... Will this be a decent set up for awhile. I'm planning on buying mid June. I have about $350 and if I sell a trailer $300 more plus what I get for Graduation. Should be a decent set up for awhile correct?

I shall answer your question with another question. How well does your e8500 system in your sig play games atm? and how long ago did the e8500 come out?
