Connecting to Wireless Freezes Laptop

Just today, my laptop freezes when ever I try enabling or connecting to an access point. I've reinstalled the drivers, updated the drivers, uninstalled recently installed drivers but it still freezes.

I would hate to have to take it in again for the 3rd time.

Vista Business x86

Im going to blow away everything and reinstall as I do at the end of every semester right now. If its a conflict it will get solved.

This laptop has a history of breaking though.

I reinstalled, now it gives an error "failed to connect for an unknown reason" but doesnt freeze. I purposly put in the wrong password to see if it gets the that stage but it gives the same error.

Are you running the latest wireless network card driver?

Is you're router running the latest firmware?

yes and yes

I setup a network with no authentication and it connected. Now it connects with no problem with wpa. I have a feeling it might have been hardware and it will happen again.
