they are both free and i don't know witch one to choose. both need a new hard drive so i have a 320gb hard drive sitting here waiting.

What motherboard does the dell have?
Is it a 775 ?
If so you could upgrade the chip later!!

The Compaq is better. Has more upgradability in it (PCI Express slot, DDR2 RAM, and plus the older AMD's were faster than the P4's).
