Hey guys,

The WD 320Gb HD in my Dell XPS1330 just died again - ten days after the warranty expired (it's the gremlins, I swear ) - so I am looking around for another one. I've used plenty of 5400 and slower drives in my laptops and PS3 and whatnot, but I've never installed a 7200rpm one, and now I'm tempted. So, what are your experiences with, for example, the Seagate Momentus 7200.3 series? Are they too noisy, temps?

Thanks!

I can't say that I've ever noticed any difference in noise, temps, etc. but there is a noticeable improvement in performance (boot and load times). I suppose in some laptops the differences might be more noticeable but I really don't see any reason to stay at 5400rpm.

^+1, agreed. Why stay with 5400 rpm. If there may be a slight increase in sound output, but that is no reason in this case to stay with inferior technology...
