External Hard drive

Ok i have a simpletech external hard drive and i have a High speed usb 2.0 cable (standard to mini) and i have a power supply for the drive so i should be good to go for a high speed connection external hard drive so i can boot off of it right? well i guess not cuz when i hook it up it still tells me that this device can perform faster. so i went into my device manager and seen if i had usb 2.0 ports and i have two its says which are (Intel(R) (ICH8 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 2836) and the (283A) is this not a high speed usb 2.0 port? or is their something else i need? anybody got an idea as to what is wrong?

bout it brand new about a year ago so it aint old.

i think this is generally down to a bad cable or not enough power to the drive. try getting a "Y" cable, it's a cable that has two usb connectors on it, the second one is for extra power.

Is there a high speed 2.0 y cable?
