computer way too slow

i have a p4 1.4ghz with 1280 ram and after i installed 2000 and a 120gb hard drive the computer is really slow
anyone know why

the right from boot up to shut down it is slow like when i click on ie it take too long to load and it just takes long to do anything

i did the spy ware and that did nothing i will do tha antivirus scan now
anything else

and also the cpu usage bounces around between 40 and 100

A good processor with plenty of ram and a good hardrive.

If its not Spyware or Ad-Ware not really sure what it could be.

You said your CPU usage bounces around between 40 - 100% It could be a program running that is slowing down your computer so much.

Enter 'Task Manager' and click the "Processes" tab and see if there is any one program that is running that is using more then its fare share of the CPU usage. That might be the cause of the slowness.

(Right at the bottom of the page there will be a "System Idle Process". Just ignore that and how much its using though.)

Its thats not the problem, your guess is as good as mine.

i checked all that and everyting seem normal nothing is using more then it should be

Things you can do to speed up a computer:

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*)

-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK

-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup

-- Download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds

-- Download Diskeeper and defrag
