Dummy overclock

I would recheck the heatsink because those are temps I would expect with a stock heatsink for that small of a overclock.
 
Yeah, those temps are a little out of control for such a small increase...

ehh i never have luck with this stuff :(
tomorow im gonna take off the heat sink clean the cpu with artict silver cleaner and tighten it harder maybe i didnt tighten it enough could that be the reason?
 
Whatever you do, don't tighten it too tight, you could damage the motherboard.

Try reapplying the thermal compound, and reseating the HSF, like you said. See what happens.
 
You have a EVGA X58 mobo so why are you using Real Temp and Speedfan? Go to EVGA.com and download the E-LEET utility. It's made for EVGA by CPU-Z and it reports speeds, voltages, temperatures and it even lets you adjust bios settings on the fly for testing and overclocking. Any adjustment made using E-LEET will reset when you restart the system so keep a record of your changes and manually set them in your bios. You should also download and update your mobo to the latest bios.

You should also avoid the Dummy OC option and make the adjustments on your own. I also have the EVGA X58 mobo and a couple i7 920 cpu's (1 C stepping and 1 D stepping).

Here are my bios settings for the i7 920 C stepping at 4Ghz using Corsair DDR3 1600 memory. You'll probably need to make a few adjustments (your memory settings may be different etc...) but these settings should be close enough to get you started.

And here are a few tips :D

You need to raise your VCore if you get a BSOD that says something like - "Clock Interrupt not received from Secondary Processor". The error code usually ends in 101

You need to raise your CPU VTT Voltage if you get a BSOD or error message ending in 124 that says "General Hardware Failure"

Note: VTT voltage must be within 0.5V of VDimm. Vdimm can fluctuate by as much as 0.05V from settings so you may want VTT within 0.45V of VDimm for that extra margin of safety. Example: if Vdimm is 1.65V, then VTT must be at least 1.20V. The default VTT is 1.1V and your adjustments are given as 100mV, 150mV, 200 mV etc... If you raise your VTT by 200mV your outcome is 1.1V + 200mV = 1.3V

why when I go to bios the cpu temp is 27 when I boot up and turn on a fanspeed or other temperture software it says 36?
