My brother is preparing to go to a LAN party and his system just isnt cutting it so he opted to go the cheap route and try to only upgrade vital parts.
Here is what he had:
eVGA nForce 3 Socket 754 Mobo
AMD 64 3200+ Socket 754
1GB PC3200 DDR
eVGA GeForce 6800 128MB AGP
200GB SATA HD
WinXP Pro
Aspire 520 Watt PSU
Here is what he changed:
MSI nForce 4 Socket 754 Mobo
AMD 64 3200+ Socket 754
2GB PC3200 DDR
XFX GeForce 9600 GSO 1GB PCI-E
500GB SATA HD
WinXP Pro
Thermaltake 450 Watt PSU w/24 Pin Connection
It seems like the chip is just too slow. He complains that games like Empire Total War lag if there are more than 10-15 units in battle, but other games like Company of Heroes run just fine in near max settings. So he wants to change the chip, ram, and mobo, seeing as the rest of the parts should be just fine. Hes looking to spend around $150-$200 is there anything you can recommend?
