Hello I'm looking at the current range of power PCs and for roughly the same price I can get

1.Quad Q9650 @ 3.0 Ghz with 8GB (1066mhz) ram
2. i7 920 @ 2.66 Ghz with 6GB (1600mhz) ram

Which processor is most powerful or the two?
And which processor + ram is most powerful?

Thanks in advance!

I7 build will be faster - Ram quanities above 4gb won't be utilised unless your using it for media editting or specialist industrial industrial programs.

I reiterate build your own its really simple we have told 12 year olds how to do it, Its near impossible to screw up provided you have an ounce of common sense and dont start using a hammer to push plugs into sockets they obviously don't fit.

i7 is very future-proof. With new CPU's coming out, you'll have a motherboard ready for the upgrades.

or using scissors to cut your new GFX card to fit ^_^

but like the others have said, i7 for sure....this i7 i'm running now is whooping my old quad OC'd to 3.5ghz

as for building....this is a really nifty site that will show you the components and such....any other questions we'll be glad to answer here on the tech-forums

i7 is actually not futureproof in the sense more chips won't be mad for socket 1336. i5 will be coming out and so will a new chipset from intel.
