MSI VR220, These guys are awesome, excellent quality, great screens, good warranty. MSRP is $799 but if you hunt around they can be had for less, surely under $700.

Thats got a 9300 Geforce but the screen IS smaller.

I think it counts as an ultraportable rather than a Netbook at 12" but these things are effing sexy. I've found I can actually work on a 12" screen and keyboard very comfortably but those 9 and 10" netbooks just don't suit me.

So you get the various colors at Mwave for $699 (free shipping I think) so that's perfect.

The black model, for some reason, costs $30-50 more and I don't know why. But I'm sure your girl won't mind green/blue/pink.

That MSI is really nice. It's definitely a ultraportable since it has a 2ghz Pentium Dual Core vs the Atom's or Nano's found in netbooks. If I was in the market for a laptop the VR220 would be at the top of my list.
