Hey all!, thats right I'm back, been about 6 months i'd reckon. But anyway I've decided to make a budget rig for about $400 American after rebates. This is because i am going to ship these items from Newegg to Australia.

i am going to need the following components and this is what I've planned so far, i am a little out of the loop now but plan on getting back in with the new stuff, although it seems a lot hasn't changed besides a few revisions and re-branded nvidia cards.

motherboard: Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
ram: Newegg.com - OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
video card: 4850 - Newegg.com - ASUS EAH4850 TOP/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards or Newegg.com - MSI R4850-512M OC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
hdd:Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3320613AS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives, couldnt afford the upgrade to the .12 xD
cooler: Newegg.com - Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

thats my basis right now, kinda sticking to what i know im sure theres better stuff for cheaper that use guys no of, comes to 424. i wanted to keep it under 400 so i could add cheap xms2 ram maybe even a e5400 what do you guys think?

Newegg.com - Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory (better for cheaper)
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH4870 DK TOP/HTDI/512MD5 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards (worth the upgrade if this is a gaming build)
Get this combo: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! (quad core - its an older phenom which we don't normally reccomend but its near the same price as an alternative e7400 and so is a good deal) or Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! (better motherboard then you picked out for about the same price when in combo and after rebate)

Your missing a psu and optical drives

Dunno how you got that down to 424, mate. All together that's $512.86 after shipping.

You can substitute the E5200, but it won't save you scads of money. To get a decent machine with a 4850 and a cooler, you're going to be hard pressed to not spend 500 bucks. You should go with an x3 build.

x3 720 BE + Sapphire Radeon 4850 512mb
Biostar TA790GX 128M + 4gb G.Skill PI Black DDR2 800
Seagate 320gb + free SATA locking cable
Newegg.com - Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

That comes to $501.94, then you get 30 bucks back in MIRs.

EDIT: Salty, no way should he get a 9950. It's clunky. Quad won't help him for gaming situations, and he'll be stuck with an older processor.

i dont need optical ( got one) and psu and case becuase will rise my shipping greatly, transferring them from usa to Australia cost alot so im stikcing to the lightweight stuff since hardware is so expensive in australia. hikaricloud i was including rebates in my price because the company shipping for me does rebates themselves and takes them of my price since they buy the parts i tell them too.

do you think the e8400 system would perform better than the x3 system after i overclock, with a decent p45 and core contact those overclock like monsters.

I got a max overclock of 3.888ghz on stock cooling with my x3 720/TA790GX 128M/PI Blacks. With a nice cooler, you could break 4ghz. The E8400s will overclock better with good cooling, but with the extra core, the x3 is a good deal for other things besides gaming as well.

But you don't have the scratch for an E8400 system anyway, I'm surprised I fit the x3 into this budget. :p A good P45 board would cost a bit more, while the E8400 is 165 bucks. This build is your best bet for the money.

ok well i will go with the x3 720 then, but im still unsure whether or not to get a 4850 because gaming might not be a major concern i hardly ever get to play, i'll think about it. Thanks guys

Well you could save an extra $25US and get a HD 4830:

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100265HDMI Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

You had a 8800GS previously right (from what you had in your sig last night)? I would still be faster than that.
