So, I have my computer all worky and everything, but everynow and then it stutters a bit and then sort of does what i could only describe as ticks, (I can actually here it go "thuk") and then works perfectly fine again.

Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?

Core i7 920
EVGA x58
3x2gb triple channel ddr 3 corsair 12800 ram
1tb samsung 7200rpm
gigabyte hd 4870
antec cp-850

pretty sure thats all the important stuff.

It may be the hard drive but i have never actually been able to tell exactly where its from.

You can try running the samsung hard disk utility to check the status of the drive. It will also cause some usage of the hd so you can listen and look if the issue occurs.

SAMSUNG Hard Disk Drive - support - utilities

After that you can check your memory with memtest.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

You can also update your bios if applicable.

Run your case open for a bit so when the sound occurs you can listen to try to determine the location of the noise.

That definitely sounds like your HDD. Follow what hef said and let us know the results.

that samsun thing doesnt want to work on a 64bit operating system, none of the ones I tried from their site do, which kinda sucks.
