Help!Help!Help! Dell gone mental!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook, My DVD drive stopped working and I was told to open up my laptop to unplug the sockets and the Laptop would think it was a new drive so I did this, Turned on my laptop and it says Diagnostic Boot Selected then goes blank then a bright blue screen flashes up and then some sort of scan that says there is a erorr with Touchpad/Point Stick and does it want me to continue testing, Y fo yes, N for No and R for retry so i hit Y and nothing happens same for the other two and while all this is happening there is a extremely annoying beeping sequence going on.

If anyone does know what this is or is simply a genius can you please help me

Does anything happen before it says Diagnostic Boot Selected? Like any sort of Dell splash screen or anything? If so you should be able to get a safe boot or something other than a Diagnostic Boot.

Also try plugging in a USB Mouse and see if it works out.

What might have happened is when you were putting the laptop back together you might not have gotten a complete connection with the touch pad, which is why it would run a Diagnostic Boot.
