Been doing some research, room mate wants to game with me... though is stingy and only wants to be spend ~$600... I've thrown a couple builds together... but I'd like to see what you all can get.. I have a hard time not getting around $650/$700... so might have to talk him into shelling a bit more cash out...

This build is from the bottom up, keyboard, mouse, OS... I'm talking the whole bit... I want him to get on a 64bit os though.... (you probably don't have to worry about the keyboard/mouse)... but everything else is fair game!

BTW: Games like COD5, some other heavy games... etc...

Thanks

So we're a little further into the build process, our budget went up a little bit... but it's still with in reach, we can fine tune things down a little if need be... However, what I am running into problems with is finding a decently affordable mobo for the Phenom II x4... I see listings on newegg, but only a very small handful literally list phenom II.. is that right? or do some boards just not list it? My impression was if the socket is compatible so should the CPU... in any event here we are:

We were kinda "shooting for the stars" on this one... I know some stuff doesn't matter like mouse/keyboard etc... Also the Ram is 1066, it's not necessary but it's cheap enough and I prefer 1066 over 800... so the board should be compliant with that if at all possible...

We're open to any suggestions... Thanks!

BTW.. we've obviously exceeded the ~600 budget, this ones more in the ~8-900 before s/h/ and tax So we may have the fine tune, if you've any ideas all is appreciated!

Alright, I appreciate your suggestions even with that being said the question still stands... what's the deal with Phenom II (x3/x4) Compliant mobos?? Are there really only ~10 to choose from on neweggs site? or... just as long as you're on a AM2+ Socket, or whatever it is should it be okay? I know the board usually specifies the "series" but, theres not much to choose from if thats the case
