Could any of you PC Guru's recommend a good gaming rig build for under $1000? I don't need a monitor. Also when you recommend the build are you sure it all goes together fairly easily?

Or i could go this route:
Newegg.com - iBUYPOWER Gamer Extreme 968i Intel Core i7 920(2.66GHz) 3GB DDR3 500GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit - Desktop PCs

Any suggestions most welcome thanks!

I found this:

Sub $1K i7 barebones

"i7 920: $270
MSI X58 Pro: $191 - $20MIR
OCZ Platinum 6GB 1600mhz: $120 - $50MIR
ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB: $198
WD Caviar Black 80GB: $80
Total: $860 - $70MIR"

Actually this seems a little too hardcore. I need an OS and DVD, etc. And the HD is only 80gb?

Sorry about the triple orginal posts. Mybad. Thanks for the replies. Any thoughts on the newegg/iBUYPOWER ready built that i linked? Overpriced? Slower than the duo core e8500 for gaming?

You should be able to get a much bigger hard drive for $80, a DVD drive is $20-$25 make sure you get one that is SATA not IDE. For an OS you should get windows vista home premium x64, don't get home basic. For a power supply get a corsair 650TX or a corsair 750TX. Everything else looks good, however you may want a different motherboard IMO Asus makes the best boards.

And please don't triple post use the edit button.

Its definitely really easy to put together.

Here is something I put together for you.

that comes to $947 - $45 mail in rebates then you can choose whatever case you like with the rest of your money.

edit: just noticed I forgot the HDD and adding that puts you right at $1000 so i'll downgrade the gfx card

I put this together for ya... not sure if you have a case or not, so i threw one in... otherwise... the order would be that much cheaper...

case
Newegg.com - RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case - Computer Cases
(alot of guys on here would most likely say not to buy raidmax, cuz its cheap... but this one had good ratings...and free shipping)

cpu/mobo
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

ram
Newegg.com - G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 900(PC2 7200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

psu
Newegg.com - OCZ StealthXStream OCZ700SXS 700W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

hdd

cpu fan/hs
Newegg.com - Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

these guys could help you put it together yourself step by step... so anyways

this would be
$928.11 after shipping...
and $55 mail in rebate...
so you are still under $1000 and its pretty cool...

i'm sure pinscher will chime in on something though... i just like to undercut him from time to time hehe!!!
the only difference really is the gpu... i went with the HD4870 and the mobo supports dual GPUs (as does the one he chose) so you could upgrade in the future if you would like...

Thanks for the responses guys. Gives me some ideas to think about. Thanks again!

I seem to be on a psu kick these past couple of days. I'd go with the single rail PC P&C psu over the OCZ. Also, both motherboards support dual video cards and if you go that route one day you'll need 4 6pin pcie supplies. You can use adapters from the standard 4 pin molex pins that will come with the gpus but they are messy and just add even more wires to your case. If you can afford a few more $$$ I'd go with one of these psus IF you think you'll upgrade to dual cards in the future....but that's personal preference as the 610 Silencer will run dual with the adapters.

Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling S75CF 750W EPS12V SLI NVIDIA SLI Certified (Dual 8800 GTX and below) CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

or

the corsair PSU for sure

here's my suggestion

Vista Permium 64-bit
Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders - Operating Systems

This comes out $950.92 at NewEgg which gives you about $50 in breathing room for a case (if you find free case shipping),

If you want a more expensive case downgrading the 4890 1 GB to a 4870 1 GB will allow $50 more for a case if you desire

NOTE: this has $55 in MIR's also

If I was you I would suggest just saving another $30 for a case and not downgrading the 4890, it I mean $30 isn't too much at all to save, or just wait for an aftermarket CPU cooler if you don't plan on overclocking much

Thanks for latest advice rollingthunder. Looks good. Gave all you guys a thumbs up.
