I have the chance of getting a 5000+ BE with a Gigabyte GA-MA78GN-S2H board, or a e5200 with a GA-p35-DS3L mobo for like $20 more, what should I get, also about the video card for this machine, a x1900xtx or a 7900GTX for $20 more?

The e5200 is by far the better cpu. The x1900xtx is the faster of those two cards but they are both kind of old.

well, I'm getting it for $30 plus shipping, and the budget for the computer is around $200. and I got the HDD, PSU and DVD drive for $70 already. Can't spend too much on the video card since it's not gonna be put to use that much.

hmm, I might just shell out an extra $25 for a HD3850 since those are down to around $55 shipped, I'll be gaming on a 19" with 1680x1050 with this PC, would 256mb ram be enough for that? or should I get the 512 version?

I game with a 8600 gt 256 mb right now on 1336x768 26". I play bf2, m2tw, ut3, and other games that are similar on the highest settings. Those are rather old games tho

Source games should be fine, they are cake for newer cards. As for new games it really depends. For things like COD4, Crysis, STALKER etc those old cards simply wont cut it, but if we are talking HL2 and CS:S then you will be fine. Some newer games like L4D that are based on old engines will run fine too.
