Anyone here with a good gaming rig?

last year my mobo died in my gaming rig and I moved to a laptop. I used to keep my rig on 24/7, so when I got the laptop I did the same thing.

I guess its not goot for laptops, because I went thru 4 hard drives in about an 8 month span (of never turning it off).

HP recommended I turn it off (what do they know tho...)

With my new build, it will be turned off only when the power goes out =D

^laptops have a lot of heat build up when they are left on for long periods. You should definitely be using a chill pad for it, to keep it cool.

I just have mine propped up on a book so that the vents can get air

That does let the vents work better, but it lacks the cooling for the hdd/bottom of the area that the fans on a chill pad do. So if the laptop is going to be 24/7...a chill pad is the best option.

there are valid points for both, ideas

if you leave it on you forgo the start up jolt

if you turn it off you save electricty and you lengthen the life of your psu

but really its personal pref

The amount that you shorten the life of the computer by turning it on and off, is so minimal, it would far out weigh the length of time before you built or bought a new computer.
