HD 4870 512mB temps

That seems abnormally high for idle temp. Try cranking up the fan up within CCC, and make sure you have some good air flow in your case.

That is abnormal. I am afraid to hear what it reaches under load.

My 4870 (HIS, 1 gig version) generally idles around 55 C and I feel that is a little high. Under load I still stay under your idle, around 65-70 C. And that is with the fan cranked really low for quiet performance.

You must have a reference cooler. The non-reference coolers are the best, like the Asus Dark Knight.

Yeah, it is just HIS's standard two slot cooler. Nothing special.

And like I said, I keep the fan running really slowly for maximum silence. When I run the fan higher, the temps are lower.

Mine is a little hot, but it is still in normal operating ranges, so I don't worry too much.

This is the one, actually:
Newegg.com - HIS Hightech H487F1GP Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

I see you have a 4870... which one are you running?

Maybe the store had that card for a while. IIRC early 4870 cards did that but then a new bios fan profile fixed it.
