Hi,

I'm thinking about building a new computer, because it's about time.
I'm looking for something that can run games like cs:source.

My tower i'm using now has:
Pentium III 864mhz
896 SDRAM
geforce fx 5200 256mb0

Can someone help me to find a good but cheap build? preferably under $500.

Is that $500 just for the tower and hardware or does it need to cover stuff like OS, monitor, keyboard and mouse?

Pretty tight budget but if your ok with having the budget be $500 after mail in rebate I can get you pretty close. Is CSS the most demanding game your going to be running. Thats not a very demanding game so I can recommend a few things that will run it well but other games will have to have the settings turned down a little.

Newegg.com - Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops e5200 $73
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards gigabyte p43 $85
Newegg.com - Apollo AP-HD4650 256MB DDR3 Radeon HD 4650 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards ati 4650 $60-$10mir (you can get a good bit faster for another $20-$40 more with a 4670 or 4830)
Newegg.com - OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory OCZ 4gb $44-$20mir (or you could get 2gb for about $23 without rebate)
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives seagate 7200.12 500gb $65 (smaller drives are older designs so slower and only a little cheaper)
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe - CD / DVD Burners dvdrw $25
Newegg.com - OCZ StealthXStream OCZ500SXS 500W ATX12V / EPS12V Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies ocz 500w psu $60-$20mir (you could run a less powerful one but I don't know of a cheaper one that is still good, maybe someone else does.)
Newegg.com - Hanns·G HW-191DPB Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 Built in Speakers - LCD Monitors Hanns G 19" LCD $120

So thats $532-$50mir but you need to pick a cheap atx case and add shipping and tax if you have to pay tax. Thats about as low as I would want to go unless someone can recommend a good cheaper psu or a deal on a monitor (check slickdeals you can often find good 19" monitors for sub $100).

Or you could go AMD

Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Kuma 2.7GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Dual-Core black edition Processor - Processors - Desktops x2 7750 $60
or
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! Phenom x4 9850 and 4gb ocz ram $120-$20 (These weren't greatly accepted when they came out because they weren't great performers but I believe they are good performers and for the money it looks like a great deal)

You will need a different motherboard. I'm not up on AMD so I'll let someone else suggest one.

On that kind of budget, I would go with an AMD build and grab a board with a 790GX northbridge, since the onboard graphics are good for moderate gaming. The X2 7750 would be a great processor for that.

Hi,

can i use my current 20gb harddrive? i don't have any other things besides windows xp, MSN and CSS and some little tools.

Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm not that good into computers, so i'm up for any low budget builds :S.

Thanks.

You could still use it, but I wouldn't, especially since most games nowadays take up a lot of space...it would get used up quick.

Bah..I just checked and i saw that newegg doesn't ship internationally..darn.

Does anyone know of any online retailers?

Sorry for the trouble guys. :S

Thanks.

Well where are you? If your in Canada there is Newegg.ca and tigerdirect.ca and ncix.com and I think we had a list of others somewhere to. If your somewhere else I don't know of any.
