Hi, I'm looking to build a pc in the next 2 weeks. The build will be mostly for gaming, surfing, encoding some movies. Parts I have are a 22" monitor 1680*1200 res (or something like that lol), mouse, keyboard, speakers, dvd drive. I will buy parts off ncix so I only have to pay 5% tax and free shipping with points. I'm looking to build a "low end" i7 set up.

-Cpu: Intel i7 920 ($360)
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
- Case/Powersupply: Antec Sonata 3
- HD: WD 640gb
- RAM: G.SKILL 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9T-3GBNQ - Retail
- Vcard: SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

Now this comes out to $1100 on newegg but I think I can get it down to $1000 with sales at ncix + price matching. I mite upgrade to the 4870 or gtx260 if I can get it under $200 cad. How does this build look?

Yeah, check for good deals at NCIX every wednesday night around 8-10pm EST. Sometimes they have a few really good ones for "limited quantities".

Go with a 6GB (3x2GB) memory kit.

I would but its just out of my price range and I don't do anything that is memory intensive anyways.

Also the games ill be playing are COD4, L4D and CSS. I'm guessing the 4850 can handle with no problems? Also what are everyones thoughts on the Sonata III? I will also not be over clocking now, maybe at a later time.

Ya thats what I plan to do. Hopefully I can get one of their combos for a good price. If that fails I think I can knock ~$100 by price matching (i hope).

I wouldn't recommend the case/psu combo, they are usually cheap psu and if you're building a quality system then put a quality psu in it to power it. That's what will put you over your budget.

You can shave a few bucks off with the Antec 300 for $70: Buy ANTEC [THREE HUNDRED] Antec Three Hundred Mini Tower Gaming Case 300 ATX 3X5.25 6X3.5INT No PS Front USB & Audio Cut down a few more $$$ by going with a 3GB set but that is a great deal for 6GB.

It's too bad you're so close on your budget, great deal on the evga 260:

I will keep this mind but I would ideally like to keep it close to $1000 CAD as possible. Also how is this system in comparison to say a Q6600 or Q9550 build for the same price? I can prolly get after market heat sink if i go that route with more ram. Opinions?

The 4850 will kill L4D, COD4, CSS. No problem. I can run it on 1080p on my 2900XT with E6400 Core 2 Duo non overclocked, 2gb of ram.

Stick with the next gen hardware, Core i7, so it will be forwards compatible with upgrades.
