After observing the responses, I am impressed with the knowledge you all have. Here is my problem; Most of the new rpg games coming out require a minimum 2.4 Ghz system to play. Here is my setup;

"Velocity Micro" Aluminum case
asus a8n sli premium mobo
amd athlon 64 x2 4400 939 pin processor
artic cooling freezer 64 heatsink w/ artic silver 5 thermal compound
2 GB mushkin ddr400 1024 MB memory
antec 550w true power 2.0 power supply
nvidia geforce 9600 GT video card
Lite On dual layer 16x optical drive
Hitachi 400Gb hard drive
samsung t220 monitor
System speed is 2.2Ghz

I was thinking of upgrading to this setup;

Asus M3A79T deluxe Am2+/AM2 790Fx ATX mobo
Amd Phenom II X4 940 Denab 3.0 GHz processor
G.Skill 4GB ddr2 1066 memory
Samsung 22x DVD burner with lightscribe black sata model

I can purchase it all from Newegg - $491

Any help would be appreciated.

That motherboard you picked has 4 PCI-E slots. That is a little unnecessary. Sure it can support tri-Crossfire, I guess?, but I'm sure the scaling and performance for that is awful. You're better off getting a motherboard that has 2 PCI-E slots.

Here are some good ones:
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX 128M AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

Newegg.com - MSI DKA790GX AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-UD4H AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

Thanks all for the input. It will save me some money. Sorry, my son has already put his name on it.
