Intel Q9550 overclocking advice needed...

I'm running a Q9550 at the stock speed of 2.83ghz. The core voltage is around 1.30v. My QX6700 was running at 3.2ghz and I'd like to push this Q9550 to that much. The multiplier is only unlocked to 8.5. What do I need to tweak, and how much, in order to get this to 3.2ghz stable?
 
the same way that you got the qx6700 to 3.2?

3200mhz / 8.5 = ~376

voltage try 1.3 and lower it in small steps until you can't boot into windows
bump it up a little bit so you can boot into windows

download and run intel burn test

if unstable bump up your voltage a little bit more

The QX9700 was already set and it could go no higher than 3.2. All I had to do was bump it from 2.66 to 2.93 or 3.2. So, no, I can't do it the same way.

I bumped my core voltage from 1.3v to 1.4v and my FSB from 1.1v to 1.2v but, it didn't change anything.

first you said QX6700 now you say QX9700

2nd, you just said you bumped your core voltage from 1.3v to 1.4v and fsb from 1.1v to 1.2
that obviously changed the voltage

get your facts straight then come back :cool:



if you don't change your FSB or multi, obviously you'll be stuck @ 2.83ghz
as I said before: "3200mhz / 8.5 = ~376 " so set your fsb to 376 see if it posts
with 1.4v on a 45nm you should be looking at 3.6ghz if not higher already
 
you should be able to hit 3.6 at 1.225-1.3V. my 9450 does 3.6 easy with 1.25V, so the extra 1/2 multiplier (8 for my 9450 vs 8.5 for your 9550) of the 9550 should make it even easier for you.
i think you are saying that changing the voltage didnt up your clock, it wont. you have to raise the clock manually in your bios. changing the voltage doesnt automatically change your cpu clock.
to do 3.2 on a 9550 you shouldnt have to change anything but the FSB, and maybe a small RAM speed adjustment.

Unless you have a really crapola mobo, and some dodgey ram.. then you have to run at 1.4v like me just to get 3.6 :p and + 0.3v on the ram.
 
well the 790i wont overclock as high as a intel chipset. but you should be able to get 3.2, just set the FSB to 380. the 790i will be able to handle that and leave the ram "linked" mode.
