PS: I need further help picking the Video card and the operating system, i can't decide XP, Vista 32 or 64?

Go for Vista 64bit, it runs fine now that it has a service pack out for it. How much would you want to spend on a video card?

id say go for a 500-650w corsair power supply.

i would suggest getting xp for now (perhaps 64 bit) as it will prolly be cheaper then vista and just wait for windows 7 to come out.

as for a graphics card, if you cant spend more then 200 dollars either get one of the cheaper 260s or the best 4850 you can find (i have a sapphire 4850 1 gig and it is pretty ******) if you can spend more i believe the gtx 295 is currently the best card out there (i believe it is just a 260 x2)...just consult the video card ranking thread for the best graphics cards. in all reality though you dont need to spend a ton to get a good card, there havent been very many improvements since the 8800gtx, my buddy runs a 8800 gtx, athlon x2 4800, and 4 gigs ddr ram and can still max out anything he throws at it....unfortunately the 8800gtx is kinda hard to find anywhere but ebay. so yeah...im sure others could help in the graphics a lot more then i can atm.

Dude, the 8800GTX gets smoked compared to the GTX and 4800 series cards.
AnandTech: The Radeon HD 4850 & 4870: AMD Wins at $199 and $299

The reason why your buddy can't max everything out, is because that x2 4800 is holding him back.

And there is no reason to wait for Windows 7, it's not due out until like 2010. And when it comes out, it won't be perfect and will probably be another half a year until it gets all the bugs tweaked out.

i said he CAN max everything out...also yes, the 4870s and GTXs are definitely better then the 8800 gtx, it isnt exactly noticeable..

I have to agree that the 8800GTX is a great card, I'm still using mine and its amazing. But I have to disagree that there have been no improvements since then. The GTX200 series is awesome and the 4800 series is too. There is a huge noticeable difference. I would love SLI GTX 285s but I can't afford it and they would absolutely put my 8800GTX to shame... even 1 would.

Get the second one, Vista Home Premium 64bit. Which video card did you decide on? Depending on the video card, 500w would be enough.
