usually you only have to do that on older systems or if just upgrading to XP. doesn't happen on all systems and also tends to happen when there is a problem with the drive not being in the HCL. So, yeah.. if it's older

hardware compatibility list (HCL). He may wanna see about updating the MBD chipset drivers as well as the bios. Problem is on the chipset, he needs the exact mbd make and model

the latest bios update i could find for that pc at hp site was the same one i already had but i flashed it anyways ...nothing changed though,where would i find chipset drivers?

either ur motherboards' manufaturers website, or install AIDA32. It provided me with all links I needed for my drivers!

download "driverguide toolkit" and run it. It will give indepth info on your system.
