quad sli 295's vs tri sli 280's

The cores in the GTX 295, GTX 285, and GTX 280 are excatly the same.

The only difference between 280's and 285's is clocks, and the only difference between them and a 295 is the memory interface...and that can be overcome with higher clocks.

Ive seen the 295 hit speeds of 760mhz on the core....so yeah its very possible.

but for the topic at hand (1x 295 > 2x 280/285's)

im using this because vantage is a better bench than 3dmark06 when it comes to compairing video cards imo.

all scores shown are for vantage default settings, everything else was anything goes...overclocks, watercooling, voltage tuning, ect,ect...

most of those guys know what they are doing so i think its an even playing field.


You can't really go by that chart. It's showing (2) GTX 285 cores against (4) GTX 295 cores. To level the playing field a little more, a chart showing the comparison with (3) GTX 285s is needed.

yes, but 280's/285's can reach even higher clocks when overclocked due to less heat.

water cooling can overcome this, but you would have to include the 280/285's on water aswell.
the guy in 2nd on with the 2x 285's has his clocked @ 795. and afterburner has his @ 792.

either set-up honestly is well beyond the power we actually need for now.
and both are great setup's.

How though? What stops you from hitting equally high clocks on the 285's? If the clocks are the same which i believe they can be as (as you stated) the cores are the same and most of everything else is too, then at the same clocks, the 285's still have the advantage of the memory interface......

Is that a reasonable logic or have i missed something?

Holy smokes.....my whole point is that a 295 can be oc'd to beat 285's.

That chart shows it.

Yes the 285's have the advantage of the memory interface, but not all cards oc the same. So yes you can get a 295 than can beat 285's even when theyre oc'd because they just wont go as high.

I said with the right clocks it beat its...if you put both at the same clocks of course the 285's are gonna win, they have more bandwidth.

From what ive seen the 295 is a better oc'er than both the GTX 280 and GTX 285, it just needs more voltage and better cooling.

I didnt say mine, i said certain cards can oc better than others.

Every GTX 285 will not oc the same, just like every 295 will not oc the same. You already saw the lists and theres 295's beating 280's and 285's....i think you can drop this already.
