I have a 500GB WD HDD that worked fine for months. I had it hooked up to my work computer so i could play music/movies. One day this work computer got the BSOD. I can't remember what it said, its been months ago. After rebooting the computer I discovered Windows still recognizes my HDD, but when I click on the icon, there are no files. Now before all this happened I had rought 270gb worth of data. The oddest part of the situation is that I go to the properties of the drive and it shows me 270Gb of 500Gb used, which leads me to think the data is still intact. Any suggestions?

Have you tried any free file recovery software? The BSOD could have corrupted the data table on the drive, so that the space is taken up, the drive is reconized, but the data can't be seen.

sounds like you need file recovery software.. the file table some how was corrupted

Do you have any freeware to suggest. I know there is a ton out there, not sure which is worth my time.
