If it is not for gaming why not just a motherboard with onboard the mobo would probably be cheaper and that would cut the cost of the gpu out. For that setup i would also look at a 450vx instead of that psu. Or maybe a 380 earth watts if you want to spend less.

yeah but trust me, that psu is not too great, and the psu is something you don't want to cheap out on. Also, you did not answer my question...why the gpu, why not go with a motherboard with onboard video, not only will it cut the cost of the gpu but the mbo its self will prob be cheaper then the mobo you selected.

He would have to get a mobo with G45/G43 chipset for onboard video. How well would they overclock compared to a P45 chipset? Or maybe he's not into overclocking, then I guess it wouldn't matter.

The Thermaltake PurePower 500W is a great PSU. You will find that a lot of members on this site swear by Corsair PSU's, which is great because Corsair make some very good ones, but that isn't to say that there are no alternatives. I used an XCilio PSU, and it works great for my build. That Thermaltake PSU is perfect for your budget and needs.

yea, did look at some corsair PSUs but i had seen that Thermaltake recommended and couldnt beat the $30 price. i do however agree that the PSU is important and shouldnt be skimped on. ill make sure to read some newegg reviews and compare to a corsair.

i had thought about just onboard video, but i thought i wanted to have a good base (P45) for long term stuff and that a $60 dedicated video card would be good value, but that is why i posted the build to get everyones input so i appreciate it. could i do an intel build with onboard video...ive mostly seen AMD builds with the onboard... he doesnt plan on overclocking

The Thermaltake is a fine PSU, I would stick with that.

You know, for just a little more money, you could get an AMD Phenom II 920 and a 790GX board (which has great onboard video, about the equivalent of that 9500GT there), and you can always get a good dedicated card later.

Or, for maybe a few bucks cheaper than your current intel build, you could pick up the new X3 Phenom 720BE, when it hits newegg.

EDIT: I just priced out all the stuff you wanted, but with a Phenom II 920...the total is $1,069.55 after shipping, then 30 bucks in MIRs. It will be about 40 to 50 bucks cheaper if you grab the X3 when it hits newegg.

The Phenoms just came out recently, these new ones are bringing AMD back into the game. The E5200 is a great little processor, and it can overclock like mad, but it's better for budget machines, and since you won't be needing a video card, you can shell out your money on better things, like the new Phenoms.

The 920/940 are quad-cores, while the X3 720BE that's coming out soon is a tri-core, but it keeps up with the higher end Phenoms pretty well for only costing around 140 bucks.

You can keep the rest of your parts the same; the PI Blacks are a great choice and will work fine, the PSU is good, everything else is compatible.
