laptop overheating problem

I have a ibuypower notebook
quad core 3.0 ghz
9800 mobile 2 gb video card memory
4 gb ram
1 ssd and 1 hdd

should i get a laptop pad which has a fan in it? or what are my other options

btw it turnsn off when it gets overheated and it is on power saver power option

Use the laptop on a solid surface, or when on your lap open your legs in a fashion that will allow airflow to the fans. Also use a can of air to clean the fans of the latop (when turned off). Also ensure that all the fans are turning on when the laptop is at its hottest (a fan could be broken).

If that doesn't help (or if the laptop has always had overheating issues b/c of poor design) one of those laptop pads MIGHT help. Try the above things first before purchasing a pad.
